Hughes and Diego Sanchez are going to fight in the fall so I don't think this will happen. Plus I think Dana had already said that Royce will not be fighting again for the UFC.

I'll be honest man, I love Royce and I'll always appreciate him for changing my life and showing me how the little guy can win. He helped me learn to stop getting bullied by my uncle (he was a jock wrestler who liked to slam me around...until I started landing guillotines and armbars). Royce is a legend.


But I dont' ever want to see him fight again......unless it's a retirement match between him and Sakuraba. Then I'll watch.

In this story on Sherdog, he did not give a definitive no. He probably does not want the fight to happen, but maybe part of him feels obligated to give Royce another shot. Not to mention, the fight would still be a big draw, and money pays the bills.

I would only want to see this fight if it were competitive.

Royce never evolved !!! It wont be competitive! Sure Royce wants one last, quarter of million dollar pay day or more. Dana doesn't feel obligated to Royce or anyone. If there is money to be made, Dana will make the fight. But I hope they don't I'm tired of the novelty fights.

Agreed. Normally this fight would really excite me, but when you see Royce talking about how their are no new techniques and how his father created everything we need to know about jiu jitsu then you know he hasn't evolved. Helio was a really smart guy, but he wasn't the only smart guy to ever step on to a mat. There are hundreds (thousands?) of people who have added to the art of jiu jitsu and we have all sorts of techniques today that weren't popular 10 years ago. If I had a sense that Royce was keeping up with the times, I'd be eager to see him fight again. But I'm not interested in seeing him apply 1993 jiu jitsu against an evolving fighter like Matt Hughes who submitted Ricardo Almeada with a choke that Joe Rogan said he hadn't seen before.
