    Grappler's Quest 2011 Tour

Is anyone doing the GRappler's Quest (or should I say planning to participate if it comes by you). There is one in Boston this Sept which I'm leaning towards doing.

For that matter, anyone competiting in any tourneys for the summer and fall? WOuld love to hear fellow members chat about how they prepare, strategy, diet, do you drop weight/gain weight etc...

I'm at 152-154 right now and need to start more explosive resistance training with kettlebells and some rings push ups and upside down ring military presses, etc to get to 160-162 and cut to 159 to be at the top of the bracket weight. The other guys in the Miami Hotbox are 140 lbrs so I don't want us all stacked in one division. I'm thinking of just doing a light water cut from 162-159 for the day before weigh ins. I don't think I ever want to do that crazy as hell 15-20 lb cut that a lot of the pro fighters at my gym do. Just doesn't look healthy to me. Then again, I'm not a doctor, so 20 lb+ weight cuts might totally be okay.

yea..i dont like the gq weight for master bc it starts at 159 i am 145.. i am not going to go up bc i am doing 149 at no gi pan ams where u wiegh in at the mat and fight seconds after weighing in... btw every toureny except ibjjf gives u a pound for undergarment so 160 and cutting would be easy ..taking a hot bath very hot for 20 mins and u will drop near 2 pounds

Oh ok wow, I'm at ~163 lbs walking weight (can't seem to quite crack 165lbs let alone 170lbs yet). I've been debating with my friend if we should try to have me drop down or just do my natural weight (I don't want to dehydrate so much I cramp up, or starve myself so much I lose energy).

The kettleballs are a good idea, although my gym doesn't have any (which is fine I use alot of free weights and machines anyways). Thanks so far for the replies/ideas though!

also if the last 24 hours you get hungry eat a balance bar or small protein bar by breaking it in half and eating it every once in a while...or take 2 scoops of protein powder and mix in very very little water to make a paste out of it,..and every hour or so take a cpl of bites..it only adds maybe 0.1 for 4 scoops ..this keeps your insulin levwel good and keeps something in your stomach ..
