For an old guy with a pot belly his hand speed is rediculous. There's another great video of him training with Anderson before the Sonnen fight where he's showing anderson a whole slew of small joint manipulations (IMO one of the most powerful aspects of traditional martial arts that has yet to really work its way into pro MMA, mark my words there will be a guy doing high level Qin Na in competition one day) and septum press tap outs in addition simultaneous parry and counter drills.

All Seagal has done is find one technique that was being under utilized in MMA, the fronk kick. The reason it was successful is because since it's under utilized it's not usually trained to defend. The same thing is happening with the jab, it's just not as noticeable because it doesn't usually knock people out. The jab, a very effective tool, was greatly lacking in MMA until recently. It's finally starting to be more utilized because people are becoming more successful with it. Rubber guard, the truck, the twister, etc... are all examples of this too, they are techniques and positions that the majority aren't training so since they are under utilized they have a higher chance of being successful until everyone gets savy. Then you have to find new ways of going about things little changes evolving the game adding new tools to your box. Thats all the front kick is just an under utilized tool, common in many traditional martial arts.

well then from that angle Steven seagal helped evolve mma. never thought I'd ever say that considering how much I hate his movies. But credit should be given where it's due. The dude helped 2 top tier fighters ko their opponents. That's insane.

LOL Yeah, I guess he did. It's always cool to see MMA fighters increase their fighting knowledge and evolve the sport. So, I guess props to Seagal.

But...... Do u guys notice how Steven Segal is working with the best of the best? Anderson, Machida, the black house guys...

Didn't Anderson and machida admit on video somewhere that they were just trolling everyone by giving seagal credit? I'm confused

An apt title to the thread Eddie , indeed the video is insane or more likely Mr Seagal is insane.....Machida is so respectful he just listens intently nodding his head , however I think the look on his face is incredulous.

The stuff he was showing reminds me of one step Karate drills ; you attack me with this punch , you grab my arm here blah blah blah . All great in theory , but in reality, fighting the highest level and most exceptional athletes on the planet ( Like Machida does) , highly unlikely to be effective.

I think Anderson and Machida just condone this man's crazy talk beacuse they are such respectful guys. I would respect what Steven Seagal says if he demonstrated some of his moves in MMA specific drills with an uncompliant training partner.

Regarding Mr Seagal taking credit for the front snap kick ; Machida has done Shotokan for many years and the front snap kick is taught from day one and the jumping front kick from green belt and above, I did Shotokan for over 10 years in my younger years so am well aware of it. If you watch the video you can see Machidas kick looks awesome and Seagals looks poor so I'm not buying him improving Machidas or Andersons front kicks, they both have awesome kicks already.


Thank God we have moved on from all this hypothetical fighting and we have the UFC !
