True, but Japanese JJ and BJJ are two completely separate art forms and shouldn't be confused with one another. In other words, a Japanese JJ black belt shouldn't come on this, or any other BJJ specific forum and post as a black belt. It's deceiving.

Most comp style apparel only goes blue-black so can beginners not wear cool clothes? I have a keiko black comp team rashguard because I like the look, are their spokespeople going to hunt me down and give me my money back because I'm not a black belt? Can you buy a blackbelt on line? Yes. You can buy a blackbelt but not whatever color shirt you like? ok.

There are white belt shirts, yes. You can get away with clothes being black as they don't look ranked (unless it's the BJ Penn shorts, etc).

At the end of the day, you can go online and buy a blue belt or blue shirt easy and wear it, but you can't wear it and shouldn't for training. He's a white belt, therefore should wear the white/grey top!

I even think that the white 10th Planet top looks the best, so it's not even about not being able to wear cool clothes, it's the coolest one there is!

In the end it comes down to honoring the system and Eddie. You can buy blue or black polo, t, or dress shirts all day long. Just like I wear brown and black leather belts. But If im gonna log on to melee and order a 10p shirt, it will coincide with my rank. If your not serious about it then its like a costume so no worries, wear it on Halloween. But its a uniform for us and dawned with pride, humility, and respect. Dig?
