I wonder why are people so obsessed with belts and rankings. I mean if you are not trying to get a higher belt so you can teach the sport at a gym or have it in your mma fighter resume, belt means absolutely nothing. It is actually a burden. I know BB jiujitsu guys who has not trained in 2-3 years and now are scared to go back on the mat and train with that BB since they would be tooled around by conditioned and continuously training purple belts. I did not train with the GI a whole lot, so I am a white belt, but when I tap blue belts, I wonder how they feel. If it was me, I would be embarrassed, I would be asking myself, am I worth of this rank?
I am not saying i will not be tapped by a lower rank student of the game, ofcourse it is going to happen here and there but minimizing the occurrences would be good.
My personal opinion on the subject is that if you are representing yourself as colored belt, you now have the responsibility to act, talk, advice, teach and roll like one and it is not easy even on the blue belt level. If you think having a rank in BJJ is less than that, then go ahead and put on a hot pink belt if you want and say that it was actually red belt 15 stripes that went off color due to multiple washings, no one will care.
