I'm constantly training for both. I heard a cool phrase somewhere online and it kinda stuck with me..."Elastic Steel".
I always think of trying to become Elastic Steel. In my mind, technique and flexibility are far more important than strength and cardio but why not train it all since you don't have to choose?

Both obviously. I can deadlift 400 but if I could deadlift 550, my bridges and other escapes would be even better.

technique over both of them, of course. you don't need to pick between the three..develop all of them

lol I don't look that strong (only 175) so people shit bricks when they feel me go all out. that only happens when someone's a dick, though.

I'm literally the weakest dude in my gym in the advanced adult striking, nogi mma, and the wrestling class *where physical strength is HUGE.* Doesn't bother me though since I'm getting stronger every time I train, and I love how the strong wrestlers spend 100% of their efforts keeping me from clinching them when they're in my closed guard. They've been in the basic RG path enough times to know they don't want to be in it anymore. I'm thinking I need to work setups to get into free New Yorks. How high % is the kimura attempt into NY?

All I get now when in closed guard is people going 100% backwards and up to pull out of my guard lol. I should be able to sink in arm bars from there right?

Yeah thats what i do. when they go backwards i just squeeze my knees together and usually get the arm bar without having to throw your foot over their face. When a man postures up real quick and explodes hes already locking his arms out for you. Anyhow thats just what i do. Take that with a grain of fuck and a bottle of paint.

You know what? As crazy as that sounds, I'll totally try to do your grain and bottle technique =D. Squeeze the knees and pop the hips for the arm bar.
