    Hello all,

Well I am a new member of the Forums, and a new student to the BJJ world. I am an Army Soldier who did Combative Lvl 1 with some really good instructors who were all about the Eddie Bravo way of BJJ. I have both books, and the DVD... I kinda get into some trouble with my wife when I sit and watch for a few hours at a time. I know there are no schools for 10th close to me, I'm in Leesville/ Alexandra area of Louisiana. But I am heart set on getting into the world of BJJ.

I am sure that all of you have some good advice and please give it to me. I am not sure what to look for when researching a gym to become a member of, what to look for when I want to get promoted in 10th Planet (if that is even possible). Where I should focus as a beginner ( I know technique is a big one). Basically if you could just leave me some advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for all of your help,
    Sean

Welcome, I am the local philosopher king. Fell free to ask me anything non-bjj related and you will receive a fantastic answer.

I'd suggest researching the local gyms in your area and go try a free class at each to see which one you like the best. That way you have all the training partners you need to get your live reps in. Then just get as much mat time as possible with work/physical injuries popping up. Check in here on the regular for updates and whatnot. Just immerse yourself in Jiu Jitsu and good things will happen over time.

Look at stretching as regular as possible. and NEVER roll cold, you'll only injure yourself. If you stretch every day for an hour, you'll notice huge results in a really short time.

Once you have the flexibility you'll really be able to get the reps in. It's all about exposure... The more you try a move the better you'll get at it.

    basic stuff
if your playing rubber guard with your left leg make sure to be on your right hip
other foot goes on opponents hip and your elbow should be digging in there collar bone

    Welcome Sean!

You've joined a very welcoming and tight knit group of jiu jitsu junkies. Think of us all as a huge, interesting family, that specializes in choking each other for fun, on a daily basis =D. Glad to have you on board buddy!

Look into any open mats in your area. I have a couple of open mat options on Saturdays where I can pay $10 and roll for an hour.
