short legs, 155 lbs vs 227 lbs Blue Belt... rubberguard, what to do?

I gots midget legs, is there a time you simply use rubberguard to frustrate your opponent and get him to open up his game if his girth is beyond your leg length? I grappled this 227lbs blue belt and it was very difficult to push my rg game. On small to mid size frames I don't have many problems... when I try and rg people like Red Schafer... I can't get past New York, he ofcourse knows what I'm doing, but in general... should I continue to push rg game on people with a wide girth? I find myself looking for pyramid or playing inverted instead, is this the right direction?

nice victory, well played good sir, 227 is BIG for a guy your size, demian maia a middleweight taps out guys in HEAVYWEIGHT it takes INSANE amount of strength to control them, find people more your size then your legs wont seem so "midget"

If I'm entering absolute tournaments - I don't exactly get to pick out all the guys my size. I'm often stuck grappling some pretty big guys. I've actually put on a bit of weight to maintain control of people better in absolute divisions (used to roll @ 145, now walking @ 165)

But yeah, guys my sizish, don't impede or hinder my rg. Its the large girthy mofos I'm seeking game plans for.

Great win! One thing I noticed, when you pull Mission control at 1:13 you don't go to New york (hug your left knee). The only reason I mention it is this guy obviously was tired and didn't try to posture up, but hugging the knee protects your knee ligaments and makes it even harder to escape or posture up, in that instance say that guy was an explosive wrestler and he postures up real hard it could put your LCL in danger. Hugging the knee will protect you and give you more control. Mission Control>New York>Chill dog>Kung Fu move> Jiu Claw=sweep or submit. Just a little input, either way fantastic job against a much larger opponent, nice heel hook.

no problem man, these are the basic moves you ALWAYS want to look for the setup he has but if the other guy gets "frisky" switch to other techniques but if your hittin mission control go right to those standard moves

That was a nice win! The best thing I get from rolling from the big ones in my gym (they have my by 50+ lbs) is in practicing the step by step basics - think Roger - and maintaining the self defense posture for the street that tells me if I can roll with one of my 250 pound all stars with no fear, I have no reason to be intimidated by some ass wipe on the street. Just keep the transitions flowing and to quote Eddie let your opponent know that he "can't do shit" at least enough of the time so that's all they remember.

Drill the hell out of the Mission Pump. People will commonly shove their way out of mission control giving up an armbar. So many people get greedy and try to hit the arm bar instead of settling down, hooking the arm, and working towards spider web. That transition is definitely a weaker part of my game and I'm going back to retool it.

Too many guys pulling out of my mission control setups when I should be catching the in spider web for it.

I don't see myself having much control from crackhead when my legs are that stretched. The pump would be very hard wouldn't it?

You keep them tight with strong leg curls, squeezing your knees, and securing a deep tight hook onto their arm before you transition. And you don't necessarily have to do it from crackhead. You can do it from just plain mission control. The point though is that they are making a technical error by pushing off on your chest, you need to figure out how to capitalize on it.
