I love our system, believe in it, and know that by sticking with it though the long and hard journey of progressing with it, that I'll become a competitive beast someday, and a black belt in some years.

See the goal man. Envision yourself holding up winning medals at tourneys along with your team mates. Believe that you will be hitting sweeps, submissions, escaping bad positions, and controlling/keeping good positions every time you roll *believe it until it becomes a reality*. I'm just a whitey white belt with white stripes on it, with recurring injuries, and I'm probably older than most of the white belts on here, and I can see all this.

You can and WILL succeed brother. You just have to believe, train hard, train smart, and take what's already yours. Your own personal success will turn the "haters" into believers.
    +1, AWESOME POST KIKO!

You will realize you don't have to say anything. Just use the system and don't be a poster child for it. The system stands on it's own merit! It needs no support. Let it be your secret. When they ask "what was that move?" Show them and infect them with it without them knowing. Don't throw 10th Planet in their face. Once they're hooked on the system then let them know the secret. That's how I introduced it to the school I train at. I've got guys hitting the spider web from the swim move that talked shit about "that dude Eddie Bravo." Now I have those same guys asking me for private lessons.

10th Planet is a symbiotic virus that needs to be casually infected to every Jiu Jitsu Practitioner. You don't have to force people. Once they see it work they'll want to learn.

Hey I love having people not like the system and refuse to train with it, makes it that much easier when u go against them in comps and they don't know what the heck your doing =] but to answer your question doing some super flexible moves always catches peoples eyes. Get good with your 10th techniques and do your best in all your matches, people will eventually see theres something to it. If not its just there loss.

I wonder if this "hate" that you guys speak of is regional. I have been around the mma/jiujitsu scene for 8-10 years by now and have not met one person that dissed the 10th planet system.

i think nowadays people finally acknowledge it and know it is a very effective nogi/street defense/mma system
and i think only the hardcore gracies/gracie fans diss eddie

Its usually brazilians that don't want to embrace the system and unfortunately their students say what the teacher thinks. They say that theyve been doing 10th planet moves for years and yadayadayada, its BS. But It goes back to the original Karate Kid, "no such thing as a bad student, teacher say, student do". Believers believe and Haters hate. Just remember that we're Electronic Beings living in an Electronic Universe, send out Positivity and it will return to you

I usually don't care and don't say anything. It's my game and I'll develop it how I need to.

Hell, I'm even hesitant to teach people rubber guard just because they tend to think that all you do is grab your ankle and do a few moves. Most people have no idea how well fleshed out and logical the system is and how contextual you have to think when performing it. Where is there hand, where is their posture, etc etc, which all dictates the most favorable decision. I used to think that everybody thought about jiujitsu in terms of conditional scenarios which would open up moves, but the more I think about it I think that perspective was formed at the outset with my MTRG book.

Because when I explain the conditional scenarios for each move, people seem surprised that all the scenarios are accounted for. Some people just don't think about jiujitsu that way.. which, to me, is odd.

You don't. Let other have their opinions. If they're up for a civil conversation where you can both state your reasons as to why you feel a certain way, then have that conversation. If they just want to argue and try and bully you, then don't. Especially if they are a higher belt then you. It always cracks me up how long time brown belts like to get in arguments with me about the system, especially when I was a white belt. I was always like "what are you trying to prove, I'm a white belt!" Most of the time people just want to hear themselves talk and congratulate themselves on their perceived superiority.
Have said that, train hard, compete and win and be cool and respectful towards everybody. Actions speak louder than words, and that's the best way to represent our community.
