Not all 10th Planet affiliates are gonna survive, especially the ones run by blues and purples.

The 10th Planet name will only take you so far. You can't sit there and expect students to pour into your school without pulling your own weight on the competition circuit.

As a blue or purple running a moon, the odds are stacked against you, especially if you're in a market flooded with black belts. Your team must have a dominant presence at your local tournaments otherwise why would a new bjj student chose a purple belt instructor over a black belt?

To become a thriving successful moon you must do what Louis from 10th Planet Montreal is doing

10th Planet Montreal isn't the only moon pulling their own weight, most of my moons are, I'm just using Louis Ho as an example to motivate the newer moons and future moons.

But no doubt, not all my moons are gonna make it, that's why I started this motivational thread, I want all new moons and future moons to know that the 10th Planet name is not enough to thrive as a jiu jitsu school, you must do your part on the competition scene, again, you must pull your own weight, you must become a competitive force in your bjj community, there is no way around it, you have no choice

I just want to say that Louis is the only instructor in the montreal grappling scene to compete at these events. Makes us stand apart.

Eddie you are absolutely right. Louis is an inspiration to me. He is the only mentor I have in this world. He works very hard and sacrifices a lot to compete and teach us. We are all starting to show the effects of his dedication. When I make these videos I'm always excited to put his highlights in them. Thank you Eddie and Louis for changing my life. I take this thread very seriously because it directly effects my dreams of teaching one day. I want to be like Louis one day.

I train with 8 black belts at 4 locations with over 300 students, I go to a tourney and might see a handfull of guys from my school and certainly non of my instructors compete, its kinda sad.
Competition will bond you like a family and your school will not be a revolving door academy. Lead by example, make your students proud... Nice work Louis

Great job Louis, your competitive spirit radiates not just to your immediate students, but it's hit me and the 10PJJ Miami Hotbox as well. Many of us are fired up to train smart and compete in just a few months.

Says a lot of the teacher when 8 out of 10 students win medals at every competition. I think the best thing about louis is he is easy going and will appreciate and encourage students input. On a personal note, i want to thank louis, i have been out of fighting due to an injury which needed surgery, I have been in a cast for 5 months now and he regularly encourages me, checks up on me and is genuinely concerned. I have had less care from my actual family. Thanks Lou!
