    Addicted to laziness, NEED ENERGY

I feel like these days that after i come from school i really need a nap. The only problem is that my small nap ends up being 3-5 hours and my whole sleep schedule is messed up. I was wondering if you guys had any healthy ways of increasing your daily energy output without using cofee or energy drinks. This is becoming a serious problem because it prevents me from working out and sometimes even going to train.

How old are you? What do you eat?, healthy, so so, or not healthy? How much do you weigh? Are you chubby, skinny, muscular? Cut out the sugar, eat more veggie's and less processed food, go to bed earlier, drink more water. Quinoa, Kale, chicken breast, spinach, lean meats. Could be lots of things, Do you make out with random chicks? Could be mono. Could be many reasons, if it's serious you should see a Dr though.

I used to have the same problem. I would feel like I needed sleep because I would be sore, not tired though. So I would sleep longer and the longer I slept, the more tired I got. I became dependent on that long afternoon nap. Do not take naps unless you really need it and never longer than 30 minutes. Any longer will screw up your sleep schedule and make you more tired. Also, sleep at night the second you feel tired. If you get past a certain point when you're tired, you won't be able to fall asleep until you get exhausted and this is very bad as it will make you need a 3-4 hour nap, which will screw up your sleep schedule and throw you into a horrible cycle that will make you tired all day long. Also, as he said above me, diet is very important. After I changed my diet, I can sleep less, recover faster and have a lot more energy evenly throughout the whole day. Of course you should see your doctor and not seek out advice on a BJJ forum about this but this is just what happened to me and how I got over it

you should take a cold shower as soon as you get home, that and squirt water on anything that you may fall asleep on, go out for a run also, if not a run, a walk is good, after training, you should be able to fall asleep easily, and wake up early

What you have is nothing special. A lot of people are like that and it is the result of unhealthy eating and sleeping habits.
First things first, your body will adapt to any situation it can no matter if it is good or needed by it or not.
Example's are smoking, excess sleeping, excess eating, getting fat, staying fat, increased levels of cholesterol etc...
If you sleep lets say 13 hours a day ( I had a friend who did that) after a while you will feel like that you cannot do without 14 hours of sleep anymore, if you get used to eating junk food 4 times a day consuming 5-6k calories a, even if you change your diet to a healthy one, you will feel like you are always hungry and can never get full until you eat that burger.

    Solution:
Make drastic healthy changes to your life style. Some of these changes could be,
-cutting saturated fats, processed foods, packed anything, basically if it has not been preapered by you from fresh wholesome ingredients, then do not eat it.
-Sleep when you need to, which is at night. Go to bed every night at the same time, wake up every morning at the same time, including weekends. Do not taper off and take naps during the day. You probably do not need it. If you do, as said before do not take them longer than 20 minutes. A 20 minute nap will give you the same amount of satisfaction as a 3 hour nap, only 20 minute nap will not make you grogy the rest of the day.
-Go vegan, I used to smoke cigarettes for 10 years which I quit about 4 years ago. I turned vegan about a month ago and it was way easier than quitting cigarettes. I am not going to get in to the health benefits of a vegan diet or on how your body does not need any animal products, I'll just give you my observation on the subject. Since I went vegan I have not had any food coma style lazy episodes. I never have to take a minute after eating and unwind. I don't need to snooze 5 times every morning to get up or have a minimum of 3 cups of coffee to wake up. I open my eyes and I am ready to go. Bio-waste department is working very efficiently getting rid of toxins on a daily basis, I get lots of oxygen to my cells and when the day is over I get a nice full 7-8 hour shut eye time without any interruptions.

Try some or all of these suggestions and keep in mind that any drastic change you make such as these will take 3-5 weeks to kick in. So if you do not see an energy boost or lost weight or less sleepiness within the first couple weeks do not give up.

Also if you can quit caffeine cold turkey, you will have a pretty shitty 3-4 days by your body will adjust rapidly and you will see benefits from that very very quickly.
