    How can I counter this?

also, whenever against a larger opponent whom I have trapped in my half guard, it's almost impossible for me to escape if he has head and arm control on me, and keeps his weight on top, making the jaws of life hard to do, I've tried the stomps, but to no avail.

another problem I have is when i have been mounted by a much larger opponent, I cannot explode with enough force to shrimp out, and unless he tries to setup for an armbar by coming up onto one of his feet, he effectively destroys any chance of escape. Although, I can manage to trap him in my quarter guard. I can also get both of my feet to push on his chest or under his armpits to help push him off, but I feel as if he may try a leg lock or knee bar so I try to stay away from doing that.

    Help and critique greatly welcomed.
    hey Karl,
    Hope this helps:

    (1) mission control, he grabs foot

Don't let him grab your foot. You should be holding your shin(not with your fingers but a curled hand). You should point your toes back towards your knee.
If you don't point your toes, you leave your foot flat, and for the taking.

    (2) larger dude in half guard, he has head and arm
Cool.. I have the same problem sometimes. Here's a quick solution: Whip up to the same side of the locked leg.. He bases, and quickly turn the corner, for "good footwork" setup. Also raise your same side hand over your head thereby blocking his attempt to turn back into you.

    (3) mounted escape vs a heavy person
I have two options for you:
    A) Look at how Jeff Glovers escapes the mount using the deep half.
    or-
    B) put your hands under his pits and toss him to one side, making him base. This should give you enough space to fit one butterfly shield between his crotch. From there you can do whatevery you want.
