Possible nerve damage from rolling? Need advice.

I was rolling with one of my students a couple days ago. I'm butt scooting and he's trying really hard to pass. At some point, he basically jumps on my head and my head kinda snapped back sideways resulting in an explosion of pain down my entire right arm. My neck is feeling "weird" and my arm is still slightly numb and tingly going down all the way to my index finger and thumb. Has anyone had any experience with this? I haven't rolled since it happened. I'm eager to start rolling again, but I'm wondering if I should wait a bit.

I hate to say this sir but the exact same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. Same position and everything. No insurance here so I had a medic from the local guard check me out. I'm sure I should have seen a Dr. but no luck. It has taken 3 months to heal and I've had to roll super light. Sorry for the news, I hope yours heals quicker.

Louis. Im not a doctor but that sounds like a 'stinger'. Its a common football injury. its actually a very common injury in football because alot of guys look to tackle with their heads down. the guys i knew that got them were usually ok after a week or two.
Here is some more info. if you need it

Was this before or after you dislocated your hip during the lockdown? You don't seem to have much luck with injuries

I had a stinger like you are describing. Made my right shoulder raise really high and hugged my neck. It took about 6-8 weeks of chiropractic therapy for it to go away.

Mine came from an Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling seminar by Dennis Hall. I was his demonstration dummy... and he pretty much beat the shit out of me for 3 hours and was jerking my head around a lot.

I was going to mention the same thing. I used to get them in freshmen football. It usually only lasted from 2 hours to a day though. However, I was a teenager at the time so I'm sure recovery time varies.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm glad nobody posted any 'tussin jokes. The "stinger" theory makes sense. Assuming it is a "stinger", should I wait a few more days before rolling? Or even longer? Btw, Dennis Hall is a badass.

I really don't know. Back then I told the coach that my arm was numb and he said to stop bitching and to get to the back of the line. Then I told the linebackers and they said that they loved getting stingers because then they could hit people harder with the numb side of their body. A couple of them were gang members.

I don't think I'm the right person to ask about this.

I had a fight within 5 weeks, so I kept training under the agreement with my partners that neck cranks were off limits. I tried muay Thai and boxing with it and it gave me to many problems. I rolled with my Injured side down when I had to pick a side. I made sure to respect the pain, chiropractic therapy, and 12 hour aleve pills for the nsaid. I'm not a Dr. Just speaking from my personal experience.

*chiropractic therapy gave instant relief - but only lasted about 5 hours after each visit. Helped with sleep and training.

Yep sounds like a stinger! Ice it, rest, you be back soon. Just so its not a shock you may even loose a bit of strength. I used to get them all the time playing football. I found they are more of an annoyance rather than a injury.
