well every gym has their own way of doing things. at ceasar gracies gym when you get a black belt everyone there lines up and slaps you. Some wrestling coaches suplex their wrestlers right after winning a competition. Getting slapped by Antonio Inoki is considered an honor in Japan. Every gym has initiations, some are more hardcore than others. Some people just get a belt and shake hands. The way I see it is the same way I see any gym. If you don't like it you don't have to train there.

And IMO if you get choked out it's gonna take away a lot of the fear in the choke when rolling or in comp causing you to panic less. I had my cousin and my friends choke me out a couple times for just that reason, and it did help. And I'm still perfectly literate and intelligent. It's not like I'm retarded now.

I've been choked unconscious and I've choked others unconscious. I'm no doctor, but I don't believe there's any long term damage. You just black out and come right back. It's not that big a deal. I just think some people are squeamish when it comes to violence. When you're used to it, you know when it's serious and when it's nothing. In this case, it's nothing. It would be something if he held the choke for a full 10 mississipi count AFTER the guy was already unconscious. But putting them to sleep for a quick snap is no worse than a Jab. In fact, I think a stiff jab can cause more damage.

Not quite the same as being choked out. Being choked out is harmless unless you hold on too long. There's not physical damage. You take more damage sparring with head gear @ 60%.

A choke like that in the video almost looks fun - if he was slapping
on a RNC and cranking the shit out of them, I would feel differently.
