schembri couldnt have invented the rubber guard. when he was doing his thing, noone ever called it rubber guard.
so, eddie developed a guard system which he himself named the rubber guard, not anyone else.... and schembri had utilized a bunch of other set-ups before him, that don't resemble the rubber guard system that eddie developed.

my question is... how the heck do people still manage to make this mistake, that schembri invented the rubber guard? because he uses the gogoplata? gogoplata=/rubber guard
    some people are closed minded.

    Trolling, LoL.
Names are one thing, why do you think I posted Edgar Cano? Names change, but everything all comes back to the same beginning. Bravo didn't invent everything but instead utilized existing things for the benefit of "No-Gi". Yes he got the beginnings of rubber guard from "Nino" Schembri.

I presumed that he was, but that he was just spouting off typical BJJ message board arguments. However, I think it's a valid question that's actually interesting when asked correctly. Just how in vogue was Nino's game during the Eddie's time at the Machados?

There are clearly similarities between all omoplatas and more specifically between the posture raping omoplatas that Nino throws up. They clearly are a thing of beauty and I actually hit a wrist control omoplata with my 5 year old girl hands the other day.

But in this case, the differences are more important than the similarities. If you presume that Eddie's game is just Nino's game then logically you would just use Nino's game. Since from that logic Eddie is just a derivative copycat. BUT, if you appreciate the differences between their styles, you realize that Nino's omoplata setups and Eddie's omoplata setups are actually different ranges of attack for the same movement. One is a deep tight trapped arm.. the other is a more open wrist control.

That's actually how I caught the wrist control omoplata... I had the overhook, switched to rubber guard, to omoplata, my opponent came back at me, I shot for a shitty triangle, he turned back out and his arm slipped out... saved it with wrist control, kicked the foot in front.. omoplata. Nino, Eddie, Roger, Marcelo, Lebell, Robinson, Fugi... I love it all.

To be honest for me to pull off solid submission from rg it took me about a year of trial and error, over and over again. But the time is worth it when you pulling things others have no idea what your doing.

alright if you are serious then this should be simple. so how about it, show me schembri using mission control, new york, chill dog, invisible collar, any of those rubber guard positions. if he invented the rubber guard, then surely it shouldn't take longer than 2 minutes to find him using the position you associate with him.
