Question about gi and nogi belts.

IMO, Im probably closer to a blue belt in 10P, because I know a lot from the system, but Im gfar from a blue belt in the gi. Is it possible to hold two belts, one gi and one nogi? And what about competing? Would that be considered sandbagging if I did blue belt nogi, and then white belt in the gi? Thanks.

I don't think so, i'm in that very situation. Ive been doing 10th planet for a year and 3 months and gi for like 2 months. I'ma blue belt in 10p, but a white belt in gi. They don't have the same criteria for promotion. why would i get a gi blue belt with out knowledge of GI grips and chokes etc. After practicing both i dont even consider them the same sport. but thats just my opinion, i could be wrong. but ive never competed in gi in white belt, cuz it would feel weird since im a blue belt nogi. so i guess essentially to answer your question. . .I HAVE NO IDEA?

I asked Marcelo Garcia three years ago and he told me to put my belt on that I received from Eddie as jiu jitsu is jiu jitsu - so for me the answer is very straightforward.

That's a strong argument for having two separate ranks for gi and nogi. I'll parallel kung-fu and tae kwon do to further the argument for two separate belts. The combative goal of both arts is to hit your opponent more than they hit you just like the combative goal of gi or nogi JJ is to control and submit your opponent, but having a black belt in Kung-Fu certainly doesn't qualify one to assume a black belt in tae kwon do. Same goal, different approach and applications.

This is the equivalent of the location of your school.
Jigoro Kano → Tsunejiro Tomita → Mitsuyo "Count Koma" Maeda → Carlos Gracie, Sr. → Jean Jacques Machado → Eddie Bravo → Myself
