electric chair sweep with tradional half guard

i no its impossible to get the sub but for what ever reason if you cant get the lockdown but you can get in the same position is there a potential electric chair sweep? i no theres plan b but if your in the electric chair position is there 1 from there. i heard eddie say some of the brazilians do it?

Yes you can do it, its just doesn't have the same level of control as with the lockdown.

Check out the stand-up sweeps from deep half. The ones where you load a leg up on your shoulder, and then technical stand as your leg pushes your opponent's far knee away. You basically end up standing with his leg on your shoulder, and then just taking him down. I think that is kinda similar to an electric chair position sans lockdown.

Not quite but definitely a variation that could be looked into as reference. Was drilling that exact sweep (in round 3 of that fight i think..) two or three days ago. Heavy emphasis is on controlling the wrist of your opponent, which is to my understanding not essential in the electric chair sweep.

In my experience you don't necessarily need the lockdown, but like Herzog said, you lose a lot of control so you better be squeezing that leg tight if you cant cinch up the lockdown.

The lockdown pretty much guarantees you the pass, that's a big plus
