I'm sure it has more to do with classism and richer people not wanting transients to "sully" their parks and public areas. In Santa Monica the police actually shuttle the homeless from the beach back to skid row. Additionally, skid row has become a tent city homeless community because most of the social service for the homeless are located there. Subsequently many of them stay there creating a homeless town within the city... driving property values down and effecting the value of the area.

Skid Row on 5th and Los Angeles, East of Broadway

So though I understand the concern of creating concentrated areas of homeless people their concern is misguided. They should be concerned with avoiding centralized clusters of social services since that is what causes these tent cities to spring up. Park feedings can actually help to decentralize the homeless population since they distribute from mobile areas away from the skid row sections of the city. It's the "out of sight out of mind" mentality and processing which actually creates these tent cities not private or public social services.

This is all bullshit! The assholes could have gotten a permit. But they didn't want too....apparently if you read the sign in the beginning "jesus didn't need a permit".....Guess what if jesus was alive right now...YES he would need a permit in a public park. A "Public" park doesn't give any asshole the right to do what they want even if you our a taxpayer! ***THIS WAS A SET UP***they knew they where going to get arrested, that's why there was so many video camera going!!! And to the people on this thread who are upset with the police actions...this wasn't about feeding a child or the poor or about wrong or right...This was a dumb fuck, religious group or people demonstrating!!! If they wanted to feed children or the poor they could have done it at their church or at their own houses!!! But no they were making a stance. Sorry but there are laws in this world,(Right or Wrong) and they had other options but decided against them....Thank You Orlando Police Department....see this video for what it really was.........

Citing the law as a justification of the law is a cyclical debate that is logically flawed.

It's called "civil disobedience". Clearly these people are at odds with the law and do not agree with it. When people feel that a law is immoral or unjust it will sometimes morally behoove them to publicly violate it as a form of demonstration. The entire civil rights movement was based upon this philosophy. Even then people were saying things like, "That's what those idiots get, they knew damn well that it was against the law for coloreds to go into that deli and drink from the white people fountain."

Clearly they are breaking the law, but the debate here is about whether or not the law is valid.

"Ordinarily, a person leaving a courtroom with a conviction behind him would wear a somber face. But I left with a smile. I knew that I was a convicted criminal, but I was proud of my crime." ~Martin Luther King, Jr., March 22, 1956

Yeah, I feel to it was more motivated to bait the cops into looking bad over helping the kids. If the kids were the primary concern, they would have set it up so the cops couldn't mess with them. The thing with that is, if you want to make cops look bad, you don't need to pull stuff like this to do so. There are bad cops out there, but not all cops are bad, and not all laws are misguided.

Yes, I said it was a demonstration. They have a right to demonstrate. What some people forget is there is consequence's to demonstrating. So protest away because permits will never go away! But when some people are missing the point that this wasn't about feeding the children and poor, I have a problem about it! I'm starting my own protest...that all churches need to start to pay taxes!!!!!!
