I was curious to know if anyone had any input on the Portland Fire Department. I just put in my application out there. I currently live in New Orleans, and the only thing I know of Portland from a close friend that lives there is that Portland is a really chill and relaxed place. I dont know much on the business end. I know that in some cities FD's are really hard to get into, so of I was curious to see if any of you guys had any insights. If they call me to come take the test I'll be there in August, so I plan on making a mini vacation out of it to see the sights and hit up the 10th planet school there. Thanks guys!

I am guessing you mean Portland, OR ?? If so, Salami is a great guy. He is always helping our folks when we are doing grappling tournaments in his neck of the woods. As far as the FD , couldnt tell ya I live in Eugene. You should come visit 10th Planet Eugene while your here (its only about an hour south)

Taking a CPR class and having an EMT cert is gonna give you a huge edge over the competition. Also try and pregame with some fire science classes at community college. That'll also help and you can make some connections and make an impression on the firefighters teaching the class.
I live in tucson, but I assume these things that I suggested are pretty much universal.

Thanks Salami! I'm really just looking to see if its a hard department to get on or what not. Isaiah, I'm currently a volunteer fire fighter down here in New Orleans, i have my CPR, hazmat ops and fire fighter 1. I'm also currently in school for my EMT-basic cert. Portland just seems like a really amazing place, that I want to experience, and being a fire fighter is my dream job, and Portland FD just opened up for a hiring class, I'm taking it as a sign haha.
