I get into twister side control and everything is gravy it's all good.. sometimes the purples roll me but whatever. my issue is grapevining the leg. it seems like when they shrimp into me their top leg never crosses over the bottom so I have a tough time hooking it. I try guiding their leg with my hand but it's like they sense something coming and push against it... and of course their leg is stronger than my arm.

I usually stay in twister for a minute and try and hook the leg then go to standard side control and work my regular game for a minute. What's going on?? Should I spend all my time trying to get this down or what? My issue really isn't getting rolled, it's hooking the leg..

    help me out?
Mount them, it will make them make a decision more next time, they'll start worrying about defending the mount instead of whats going on in side.

i'm not sure were your actual problem is, whether its the leg not coming acrossat all or not being able to get it to where you want it.

but my issue was i was hooking round the knee and couldn't get it, across they were still to strong. hook there ankle instead and draw it across with your ankle, i find it easier, they have less strength to pull back with, plus it leaves more of a gap, to shoot, my other ankle up to grapevine... once again not sure if this is what your looking for, but hope it helps?

Why doesen't it make sense? No I'm not talking about either of those things. I am talking about cupping the back of his top leg as he's turning into me and guiding it over my bottom leg as it clearly says on step two page 49 of the grapevine section. Like I said my issue is guiding his top leg over my bottom leg with my hand to hook it because it seems like they sense something coming and keep their top leg behind their bottom leg as they're shrimping into me.

So basically I feel as if my only options from there is to go to mount, go back to side, try a kimura or hook his bottom leg instead of the top which would be retarded because that would take me backwards from twister side control to being in his half guard.

my problem is not getting the leg I want to hook where I want it to be when he's shrimping into me. ok I will go to mount more often and make them more paranoid about that then try and go for twister if I see the opportunity.

or try all those other nifty subs from twister side but what I really wanna learn is to effectively hook that leg without fucking up or the buzzer going off b4 anything happens.

I was referring to chronic jiu jitsu's post. But since you brought it up again I will reinforce my original advice with video.
