Aj, were they 100% sure it was a spider bite to begin with? I have seen staph misdiagnosed for brown recluse bites often. Im no doc, but that doesnt look like staph, looks like an ingrown (which also can be staph). If the shit doubles or triples in size in a day and hurts like nothing you've experienced. Probly staph. Better safe than sorry, but I get one or two of those a month that make me nervous as shit. Especially in the summer in AL.
Yeah, I have a routine for spider bites. Ice and elevation are key and if you catch it early you can stop the poison from spreading. The last "spider bite" I got didn't respond at all to the ice treatments. It just got more swollen and painful.. it was then diagnosed as staph. Also, the other bites that never got infected were on areas where I wear a rash guard. The one that turned out to be staph was on my ankle just at the edge of my leggings.
As soon as I get any kind of bite with a general soreness I treat it with ice. If it doesn't get better within a day or two then I go to the doctor. Never lance or pop it unless instructed to by a physician since that break in the skin can be what kick starts any sort of spreading and necrosis.
