Sylvia couldn't have known his arm would break the pressure was not on his elbow so that's a freak accident, Renzo, didn't even know his elbow was dislocated and didn't even have time to tap if he wanted. Helio, Yes he should have tapped 100% he was out weighed by 80lbs against Kimura and was owned but lasted 12 min with the best in the world at the time, so that in it's self is amazing.

I will say this though, I'm glad Helio didn't tap, because of the possible butterfly effect it may have had on Jiu jitsu today. If he tapped maybe Eddies doesn't meet Royler in the 1st place and 10th planet is never even born.

Maybe, but if you watch the Renzo vs Skuraba it happened so fast he wouldn't have been able to tap anyways. But the Aoki fight is so much different and brutal, should have tapped IMO, He gained nothing from not tapping, in fact he lost two years of his life because of it.

happens all the time. Aoki said in an interview (I think it was Budo challenge) that losing is worse than death to him. He's never been subbed in an mma fight. If he were in the same position he probably would have done the same thing. why is it that when helio doesen't tap no one calls him an idiot but when some other guy doesen't he's a moron? isn't that a bit of a double standard?

guess what... theres nothing "heroic" about refusing to tap, if you're going to lose anyway.
if you manage to escape an armbar with some damage but with hope to win the fight, as with conor heun, you could call that heroic or whatever.
allowing your limbs to be snapped just for the sake of your pride or some stupid family tradition, now that's just stupid. either way, the ref is going to jump in and declare you a loser. all you'd prove by not tapping is that you're a sore loser.
and you cant really compare todays mma fighters to helio gracie. helio was trying to prove his style of bjj to the world so it was more than just winning or losing for him.

I do think it was stupid of Helio to not tap, I said that. No double standard. Did you read my post? I promise when Helio got his shoulder and arm ripped apart there were a lot of Japanese people thinking "Wow, that guy is an idiot." Anyways, I was joking when I "fixed" your comment, that's how I feel. You are never going to convince me otherwise. If you feel different that's ok too.
