Yeah, rubber guard works incredibly well for MMA. I totally forgot that Eddie developed it for MMA and that first time I full contact sparred I remember being surprised at how little I was getting hit while holding rubber guard.. then I remembered that it was created for that purpose. It also naturally creates openings as they spazz out to strike digging themselves deeper and deeper into your arsenal. It's pretty incredible when it works well.
That being said, bottom half and side are still brutal spots to be in during full contact sparring. It's so demoralizing to dig for underhooks while you're being drilled in the face THWAK THWAK THWAK THWAK.
