http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pole_shift_hypothesis
Seems to me that melting ice caps could cause a polar wander. A pole shift is not regarded as something that has ever happened, or will happen. It might look as we have a polar wander now, and it might have an effect on weather, volcanoes and tectonic plates. But really, I have no clue. Felt a bit safer after reading the article though. It seems that the magnetic pole may wander because of distribution of mass, but that it's simply aligning itself, and it always stops. it always wobbles too, in an 8 figure movement pattern. I've seen reports on TV, that it's moving faster than ever, and it's "off" by some degrees. Maybe it's because the poles are melting? All speculation on my side.
