I don't get how people can teach their students that "any move can be countered," and then 20 minutes later, claim to have "proven" that RG doesn't work by showing one counter to one form of RG. If you try to armbar me from guard, I can pass if I do it properly, so I guess armbars don't work either.. What's funny is when someone (in this case you) counters their counter, because they can't say "that doesn't prove anything". Their own logic traps them into stupid conclusions.
Also, as a side note, my instructor (a direct disciple of Royler) has been less adamant about his anti-RG attitude. He always lets me practice what I want, but you can tell that he thinks it is a waste of time. Recently, though, while he won't comment on pure RG techniques, he will comment on transitions to other positions and subs. He had a lot to say about going mission control to armbar (various crocs) and chill dog to oma.
