It doesn't even really matter, though-- it's irrelevant. Whether or not you believe in God you have to admit that the scientific method is the best model we have to use to understand the world around us this far. If you've ever had a serious respiratory infection requiring antibiotics then you owe your very existence to it.

Self-sustaining belief, unfortunately, means that people of faith can still believe deeply in something despite OVERWHELMING contrary evidence. ie.....evidence, logic, and reasonable thought do not counter faith as far as changing people's minds. Plus the allure of having to give up responsibility to a "higher power" that is looking out for you is an awesome selling point of religion.
