Awesome. Don't screw around. Have it looked at and get an MRI. Knee joints are very complex and even the most subtle sprain can be the beginning of some horrible damage if not treated correctly.

I don't have insurance so I had to take a month off after my knee injury in order to play it safe and not risk further injury. If you have free health care, use it.

    Good luck.

I almost did that exact same thing last week, I was going for a carni and my knee went "POP!" I had to let go immediately and was in a significant amount of pain. I got a MRI just to be safe and turns out I sprained my ACL. I was happy nothing was torn.
Dr said R.I.C.E, ibuprofen, a hinged knee brace, and exercise bike for rehab when I feel I have better mobility.
I would go see a doc man you don't want to fuck around with your knees....

Four month wait time for an MRI in Ontario... doubt your doc even orders it.

I was wondering about that. I had one physician who, knowing I couldn't afford an MRI, just checked the stability of the knee and we basically worked off the presumption that it was a sprain since it was still stable. I was instructed to rehab it like it was a tear staying off of it until all aches and tenderness went away.

Overall it worked but now I have IT Band Syndrome on that leg.

A good orthopod/sports med doc could probably pick up 9 out of 10 acl tears on physical exam alone. Reality is that there are few docs who fall under this category.. and they would probably still order an MRI.

Partial tears are very hard to diagnose on physical exam. Even harder when dealing with good BJJ/10P guys with extra muscle around their knees.

There is a lot more inside your knees than ACLs... this is where MRI shines. Looking at posterior CL, lateral ligaments, menisci. Status of these structure can affect therapy and clinical outcomes... and probably urgency of intervention.

Yeah, I definitely didn't presume that she had a high level of expertise on the topic. I literally immobilized the leg for a month until the tenderness subsided and then proceeded to train with a taped knee and 2 knee braces for several months.
