Ive been watching a bit of fight footage and Ive noticed that most roundhouse kos delivered by a kick come from the back foot unless its a switch kick. basically I was wondering the ko% of a kick from the front foot.

and if the ko percentage is low, wouldnt a good counter to train be to block the strike with your right hand (Im southpaw) and come in with a straight?

blocking a kick with your arm or "hand" is kind of a last resort if you ask me look how many guys get there arm broken. You should be thinking about timing and distance.

im not sure the % but i know that ive dropped more people from my left leg switch kick then from a right roundhouse, i think its all in how well you use the technique and when you use the technique

Blocking a power kick with just one arm is generally a bad idea, it's like defending a choke with one arm, yea, u can do it and get away with it MOST of the time, but eventually your gonna get caught by someone who's good & out-times you to it. That being said, I wouldn't train that habit, if it's mma I'd block with both arms and attempt to wrap up the leg and pursue a takedown off the blocked kick, but for straight-up muay thai, I'd go for a 1,2 jab-cross off the block as your opponent is resetting their balance for the next strike. It's a little risky to judge your opponents kicking power until you really feel it, but if it's a front roundhouse from a normal stance there's not gonna be much hip in it and therefore not much power, but like dennis said, if it's a switch kick coming at you, it's gonna be loaded up so I'd prolly take a step back then lunge in with some quick punches. Have fun seeing what works!

Best counter would be to Cut Kick... which is an inside leg kick on his base leg at the same time he throws the round house. If you must block it, two arms is ideal, make sure to block the back of your head so that sneaky foot doesn't wrap around and cause damage.

I think there's more potential power from your far leg obviously, but I would say there's still more than enough potential power in your front leg to KO someone if you practice the technique. I would even dare to say if someone spent the same amount of time practicing both.. they would most likely be able to land more ko's with their front leg. Simply because of the fact the opponent has less time to block, and there are less "tells" to throwing the front kick (you dont have to turn your hips quite as much/early).. And i know i'll probably take crap for throwing this name out there as someone to look into.. but if you want to see someone who learned the value of the lead leg roundhouse (or lead leg any kick).. watch some of Bill "superfoot" wallace' old fights.. As crazy and old as that guy is.. he had a scary left (lead leg) kick..

no doubt you know what your talking about, but first of all wouldnt that kick open your head up even more, and since Im southpaw id also be leaning into his kick, and what keeps his shin from hitting your face before you leg hits his leg?

If you are very experienced yes...if not you should probably just stick to high guard defense..It also depends on your reflexes/vision..Some of the really elite kickboxers catch kicks all the time and counter( which you don't see that often in mma)
