I had Staph on my left elbow in the summer of 2009... I got it from rolling on a carpet with my brother when I already had an open scratch on it... I had no medical insurance & my Mom (who is a nurse) said I needed to go have it lanced so they could get the infection out... I said "Fuck that shit" I wasn't about to pay a huge medical bill... So I went & got two wash cloths & wet them, one under hot water & the other under cold water... I put soap in the hot one and begin to scrub the infection which softened the surface of the skin... I put the cold wash cloth in my mouth & bit down hard!!! I started squeezing that fucker as hard as I could for about a minute and a half & then finally: BOOM!! This white infectious core shot out of my elbow at a speed that had to be at least 200 mph & slammed right into my bathroom mirror... It bled out like a son of a bitch so I had to hold pressure on it to stop the bleeding & when it finally did, I put anti-biotic ointment on it & wrapped it up with a huge bandage & medical tape... I had a small crater in my arm for several weeks... I guess the moral of this story is: buy medical insurance or be prepared to hurt ALOT!!!

i got staph the old fashion way, from the gym. i got mat burn that opened up enough to get bacteria in it and while i showered after it wasn't with antibacterial soap, so i got the infection. felt terrible and started to look like i was falling apart with the sores popping up all over the place. went to the doctor got antibiotics, it went away without ever getting too scary. there was a kid in my area that died from it a few years ago, so it's taken pretty seriously here it seems.

wow...guess I'm not the only one.....i had this infection two weeks ago, got it cultured, they said it wasn't MRSA, took keflex, it cleared up, now its back like muthafuckin Dr. Evil. I'm taking a week off work while I dose up on antibiotics.....Septra sucks tho. Thanks to all for sharing.....

Medical insurance or not, it hurts like shit either way. My girlfriends mom is my doctor thankfully. She cut the first one open and drained it 4 times before it went away. 2nd one went away after one drainage because I knew this time around to handle it asap. Moral of the story: Handle infections sooner rather than later.

Getting it cut opened and drained hurts and the one good think staph isn't as resistant as mrsa is. Like everyone says make sure your equipment is getting cleaned regularly to cut down on the risk, because once you get it you are more prone to catch it again. As soon as you see a questionable mark get it checked out because if you wait then you probably will get it lanced and have longer recovery time.
