I know Dude's that brag openly about being a fuck up, losing jobs or crazy shit like beating down random people. That's all cool to one type of audience, but not cool to another. For example, if I tell a girl I love fucking prostitutes and she's cool, I have to wonder about her. You have to know that people are different. So, when you hear applause, it doesn't always mean your getting cheers from the cream of society, you might just be getting cheers from the dredges of society, thinking everything is cool.
But anyways, if you don't think reputation is huge in any social setting, then by all means, carry on.
