Im waiting to see how the higher belts react. They come through regularly. I hope they let me tape grapple sessions to post on here
Renato Leranja would be proud

They probably would frown on a guy showing up and slapping on leg locks left and right, because of the high risk of injury and the fact that the classes you are showing up to have a lot of low level guys in it. Lots of those moves are illegal in IBJJF comp for that level so I'm sure they aren't teaching it to them. They shouldn't have any issue with 50/50 though.
I gotta say, this sounds like the start of a disaster. A guy with 5-6 years of BJJ experience goes to a local school to prove that that the style they train (with Gi), is bullshit. So he goes and beats up a bunch of guys that are low level new guys who don't even know what he's doing to them.
After beating up the newbies, he wants to tape his sessions with the more experience belts so he can post the vids on the internet.
I see a huge helping of humble pie in your future.
I would be shocked, absolutely floored, if you were able to enter the IBJJF Miami Open and win the Blue Belt gi division for your age/weight without ever training in the gi. There are hundreds of sweeps, submissions, controls, and defenses that are unique to gi playing, and if you don't know any, then you are at a huge disadvantage against someone that does.
White belts and Blue belts are still beginners at this sport. Many haven't learned how to use the gi, so in many ways they roll as if it was no-gi, except they will grab on more and slow the game. Legit Purple belts and higher, will have learned how to use the gi, so you'd have much more trouble with them. Blue belts that are getting close to Purple will also know how to use the gi well. I'm sure there will be experienced Blues at Miami, and that is why I don't think you'd be able to win the gi division (unless you train in the gi before hand). You'll have had more years experience than anyone else in the division most likely, so you'd probably be a better pure grappler than most of them, but the inexperience in gi will make a difference.
