My gi experience is pretty much the same as Bobby's. I bought a gi at a NAGA and since I am in the expert no-gi division I had to be in expert gi. So never training I competed and won 2nd in expert. I was shocked. Then I competed against blue belts in another tourny and won first. I was blown away. The gi makes RG so much tighter lol. I still never train gi.

I trained in a "hot box" for about 2 years, but got in the gi for the first time a few months ago. Got choked a lot with the gi. The control is crazy. However, they had trouble with my lockdown, double bagger, and even got a couple blue belts in the twister.

Sucks that they're probably not gonna like me doing 50/50 guard and leg locks. Its a nice place to try my 10th Planet stuff. The lower belts have no idea what Im doing. Im waiting to see how the higher belts react. They come through regularly. I hope they let me tape grapple sessions to post on here

    Renato Leranja would be proud
They probably would frown on a guy showing up and slapping on leg locks left and right, because of the high risk of injury and the fact that the classes you are showing up to have a lot of low level guys in it. Lots of those moves are illegal in IBJJF comp for that level so I'm sure they aren't teaching it to them. They shouldn't have any issue with 50/50 though.

I gotta say, this sounds like the start of a disaster. A guy with 5-6 years of BJJ experience goes to a local school to prove that that the style they train (with Gi), is bullshit. So he goes and beats up a bunch of guys that are low level new guys who don't even know what he's doing to them.

After beating up the newbies, he wants to tape his sessions with the more experience belts so he can post the vids on the internet.

I see a huge helping of humble pie in your future.

I would be shocked, absolutely floored, if you were able to enter the IBJJF Miami Open and win the Blue Belt gi division for your age/weight without ever training in the gi. There are hundreds of sweeps, submissions, controls, and defenses that are unique to gi playing, and if you don't know any, then you are at a huge disadvantage against someone that does.

White belts and Blue belts are still beginners at this sport. Many haven't learned how to use the gi, so in many ways they roll as if it was no-gi, except they will grab on more and slow the game. Legit Purple belts and higher, will have learned how to use the gi, so you'd have much more trouble with them. Blue belts that are getting close to Purple will also know how to use the gi well. I'm sure there will be experienced Blues at Miami, and that is why I don't think you'd be able to win the gi division (unless you train in the gi before hand). You'll have had more years experience than anyone else in the division most likely, so you'd probably be a better pure grappler than most of them, but the inexperience in gi will make a difference.

    You greatly misunderstand me.

I only use leg locks for sweeps at traditional bbj schools except on browns and blacks, and purples if they want know them.

I only wanna post grapple matches with good purples, browns and blacks. I dont care if they wax my ass on video, I wanna post them so other people can see what happens and maybe learn something.

In tournaments there is no way they would allow me to go with anybody under purple belt.Grapple ref and judges can tell when your sandbagging bad and will move you to a harder division. Wont matter what my belt color is

I aslo want to start a hotbox at a gym but it seems disrespectful if students want to start training more 10pjj. I only try crap I havnt had time to drill yet on lower belts

If I wanted to post videos of me bullying people I would have done it a long time ago. If me getting destroyed on can help others get better, than the whole wil get better and hopefully the learning will come back to me

a lot of my posts probably look ego driven but I could care less what people think about me. If I had the money when I was younger I wouldve moved into the mountains years ago

Starting a hotbox in a gym is a slippery slope. I had to fly under the radar and have me and three other guys I train win tourneys before it could even be considered. And my gym owner is open minded and laid back as hell. Yet he is still from a traditional backround, so some stereotypes and misconceptions had to be exposed as such. Good luck and let your blood and sweat do the talking. Everyone respects that.

I really like that idea. The gym owner is pretty open minded. Renato is pretty open minded 2. Ive seen him messing around with Rubber Guard stuff in some old training videos.

You know I had beaten a sandbagger in my first tournament he was a blue belt carlson gracie (which I didnt know) joining the beginner class (6 month & under) in the no gi division but since he was used to gi techniques it was obvious in our roll sure it was hard but I got him with some of the easiest sweeps in nogi just shows nogi and gi are really different sports depending who you roll with felt good knowing I beat a blue belt tryng to get an "easy" medal lol

I just started in the gi a few weeks ago. I had only rolled no-gi before that.
I routinely get my ass kicked in the gi by everyone who has been training in it.
The gym I'm at now does gi and no-gi, and I can work so much better without
the gi since I'm used to it. I'm always getting my hands and feet stuck in bad
positions working with the gi, but it's getting better. Movement is so much easier
without the gi now after some work in it......plus triangles and arm bars are easier
to avoid without damn handles to grab onto.
