I dont think its fair to say the people that are asking these question are "chasing belts". Maybe theyre just wanting to be promoted under the 10th planet banner.

I think as a white belt a promotions to blue just give you a goos feeling of accomplishment, that your hard work is paying off and you're on the right track

Yea, that was going to be my only point really. It's hard to measure your accomplishments and improvements without seeing actual 10th Planet instructors. It's not really about chasing belts.. I can test in the BJJ school here, but when I spend as much of my time with 10th planet stuff as I do, measuring improvement is important.

In my mind I thought at least rolling with an instructor in person would provide some advantages over getting ranked solely on technique vids and unknown levels of competition in random tournaments. I totally see the point about not promoting people you don't really "know". Thanks for the answers.

Just a heads up, each moon instructor does it diffrently. And the online promotions will be diffrent as well.

TTT for that! ...not that I'm implying OP or anyone else is a belt chaser! Just agreeing with the sentiment!
