Just a kind bit of advice, Be prepared.
The funny thing is, almost every guy(with a few exceptions) thats e-mailed, facebooked, myspaced messaged me thats told me they are interested in rank in 10th Planet and is down with the system and they know it well, have put in the reps, etc.that have come trained at our Academy(I had two specificly in the last year tell me flat out there were at blue belt level and was hoping to achieve it in the next few months) and were no where near close to Blue Belt level or had near the knowlegde of the 10th Planet System that they thought they did. And when it was time to roll, all of them fell apart. Some never came back again, their had their priority's screwed up they wanted their desert before eating their dinner.
One guy specifically told me he had been training BJJ for 4 years (2 years consistently) he missed his bluebelt test 2 months prior to (he was out of town for work or something, when his instructor ran testing)coming into town to Rochester to train for a few days, every contact (about 5-6 e-mails) he kept referring how he'd like me to test him for blue while he was here. He swore up and down how much he knew the system, how he was beating guys in the gym with the system, they had no idea what he was doing and couldn't stop his techniques when using the 10th planet system, etc. The guys walked into the gym had a sort of a standoffish attitude (which I chalked off to, him wanting to prove his worth, tough guy attitude) towards some of the other guys. It was the beginner class, which he took issue with and thought he should have been able to go right into the advanced class. When class started he wound up with a partner that had only been training about 3-4 months, and he was obviously irritated about it.The guy was a talker, and when drilling technique was trying to coach the other guy through every transition, even when I was standing there. I had to ask him 3-4x to let me do the coaching. When it was time to roll...it was one of the funniest things I had seen in awhile (we had about 20 guys/gals in class that night,I think I only had 2 possible 3 blue belts there, the rest white belts, and me. Everyone including the 3-4month white belt submitted him multiple times, and he didn't submit anyone. Then the excuse factory....I ate too late, we don't roll like this (5 min rds, 30sec break in between each round for and hour straight, without talking, sitting out, running to the bathroom 3-4x, etc.), i'm not focused being in a different gym, etc. Over the next 2 days, the talking stopped and the trainings (and submittings continued). His last day before he left he thanked me and said "man....I have a lot or work to do." He's been back once since, but no longer asks about belts.
Now on the flip side I've had some guys that were cool as fuck come in and train (and they only mentioned that maybe down the road they'd like to be eventually ranked in the 10th Planet System). And those guys continue to come train and put the time in, and I can see they are putting the reps in and drilling the System when they aren't here. They "get it". They understand the journey is more important then the destination.
