10th Planet Belts vs BJJ Belts.

I've been thinking about this for a little while now. Being that 10PJJ is NoGi based and BJJ is Gi based, shouldn't for ex. a blue in 10PJJ be on the level of a purple in BJJ in regards to NoGi? because if a purple in BJJ is focused on the Gi, his NoGi game should be weaker than a purple in 10PJJ that's focused on NoGi. Or perhaps, maybe it's that a blue in 10PJJ, only needs to be on the level of a blue in BJJ NoGi's game? My question is to everyone but mainly to instructors, to see what they're looking for when they promote someone.

Also, just a quick question. I understand that a reason for the rubber guard is to close the distance in mma so you can't get punched, which is great but what about for someone just into grappling. Is rubber guard still the go to guard?

when a purple belt takes off his gi.. hes a purple belt.. he still has his pressure, flexibility, and mobility.. the only difference is he no longer has grips, which is easy to overcome..

yes but 10PJJ is not just grips, it's specific moves and positions. If what you said were true, then why even train NoGi ever if he's still the same besides grips (which are easy to overcome).

its if your a blue in bjj your a blue in 10pjj up until black belts in bjj then your a brown in 10pjj considering it will take most people 7 to 10 years to achieve a black belt its more then likey your going to do some no gi training in that time as for rubber guard its just another option to have to add to your game i look at it as if the "normal " bjj stuff isn't working then i'll go to 10pjj techs because they are so unconventional and a lot of people don't know what to when you step outside the norm

I know the rules of the belt system, I was just wondering everyones opinion on my question. Also, I know 2 black belts in my school alone that do not ever roll NoGi. One of them even had to cover a NoGi class for another instructor and showed up with his gi, renato style haha

that's interesting that you use 10PJJ as a back up. I would think 10PJJ were go-to's for everyone here.

In the USA or Brazil? because there is a difference....

generally, if you tried to tell bjj belts that you were this belt in 10thplanetjj IN BRAZIL

i guarantee they would probably run right through you haha

Personally, I use the rubber guard as a situational guard. In my opinion the rubber guard relies upon basic principles of posture control, arm isolation, and hip angle which are essential to many basic guard mechanics. Just simply demonstrating rubber guard variations of basic moves can show a beginner why another normal move works. For example, I always show people deep hook variations into spider web just to demonstrate how anytime they find a deep hook, they have a free path to arm bar city... even if they prefer to just try and finish the arm bar rather than transition to spider web.

Pretty sure it translates equally + or - the athlete. I rolled Jiu Jitsu in a Gi for the 1st time ever last week with a few Gi purples and I controlled them a little they got some good positions on me too no subs either way but felt pretty even, but I think I would have dominated them if we weren't wearing the Gi. The Gi really slows the game down a lot, grabbing my pants holding my sleeves, so annoying.

I don't understand? is it harder to get belts in brazil or something? what if a brazilian instructor moves to the US, does he give out belts easier?
