    Technique question

How do you guys feel about belly down arm bars from closed guard/RG. I have had a surprising amount of success with this. Is there any reason I should not us this?
I would like some opinions please. Thanks!

It's just a matter of personal grappling philosophy. I prefer control so I always secure the deep hook first and then transtion to an arm bar once they settle down and I have control of the tempo. Some people though, they're good at exploding their hips and they have a crazy kung fu death grip.. so they just prefer to go for the flash arm bars mid transition.

In my opinion it has to do with if they are rolling. Sometimes committing to belly down leaves a defense of rolling out, and if they have a grip on the arm being attacked it's easier for them to stack in defense. Going to spider web is safer to attack from than belly down.

I'd say that the main thing is that you should do whatever works for you. If it's a move you like, get really good at it until it works on top level guys. Imagine what would have happened if Eddie listened to all the ppl who said that the Rubber Guard or Twister dont work. We'd all be wearing gi's! lol
