I love seeing "old" stuff from the JJ world make it's debut on the big stage of MMA.

My thoughts exactly. I hope guys start advancing their JJ. What made JJ so effective in the old days of the UFC? It was unpredictable. Why did it start to lose its effect? It became predictable. So what I'm getting at is that JJ needs to keep being unpredictable. Guys need to start going for japanese neckties, trucks, samurai's, and the other 100+ moves that no gi has.

    Evolution baby.

Ed looked really good in that bout, his confidence off his back was amazing. Sub after sub after sub, that's what jiu-jitsu in MMA should look like!

    As promised:

This is basically the "Backdoor Spin to 50/50" from deep half guard that Ryan Hall shows on his 50/50 dvd. Amazing execution.

That was beautiful. Ed has evolved into a sub machine. What should Kyle have done?

If it was me I would of probably....

A.) Leaned my weight forward and immediately triangled my legs to protect my inside heal and layed back and played 50/50.
B.) Turned my body away (we call it sprinters stance) and mule kicked my leg out (if Im someone who doesnt like to play 50/50)
C.) Dropped bombs on his face and hope for the best.

Watching it back...it also looked like Kyle had an opportunity for an outside toe hold while he was standing or probably should of stayed heavy on that front foot and tried to pass standing (working\pushing Eds legs lower and lower until they were below his knee.)

I see a point in the video where Ed is rolling to the 50/50 and it looks as if Kyle was turning away from the leg lock attempt. I think if he may have been able to turn and donkey kick out maybe.

i would have chosen option a, protect the heal, then point my toes out, & look for the proper excape, or play 50/50 and take turns sweeping each other
