    Hello Everyone!! + nogi question

Hey guys, I'll to keep this short as possible but I want to introduce myself as well as ask a question about training nogi.

Firstly, my name is Mike Slavin, hence the username Slavin (I feel like an idiot starting off at new forum but whatever) To get through this quickly, I am 21 years old I lived my whole life in a small town (about 1,500 total people) near Thunder Bay, Ontario (right ontop of Lake Superior) It was fun for abit but sucks so much now, especially the winters. I don't know if anyone has ever experienced minus 50 degrees Celsius weather, but if you haven't its fucking BRUTAL. Anyways I just moved down to Barrie, Ontario Canada so if anyone on these forums are near my area cool!

Secondly, like I said I just moved down here, haven't even found a solid job yet or a place to live. (At a family members place right now) My plan was to get a job and a place first before even checking out a gym, but I couldn't help myself and today I went to check out EmpireMMA (I also wanted to join this forum only after I had some experience in a gym, but I couldn't wait any longer) So I guess my two biggest questions are What gear will I need to buy and keep in my bag? and how do I politely say I only want to train nogi?

The gym offers Muay Thai and BJJ, and on the class schedule they have nogi so Im guessing that Ill only be able to train nogi when its nogi. Either way, any jiu jitsu is better then none.

The gear I have so far is just some rash guards and shorts so what should else should I get? I know of like 2 pairs of gloves one for the heavy bag, one for sparring, if anyone can write me up a list that would be perfect. I know that I could go in and ask the instructors all this, but I hate looking like a noob and want to be as prepared and professional as I can.

So thank you in advance to everyone who takes the time to read this, sorry for rambling on so much, and yea haha

    -Slavin

First, welcome Sir! Secondly, if you've visited the gym already why not enquire about a part time job there? I've been a part time employee of over 25 schools over the years. Even if it's a few hours a week cleaning mats, it's well worth it.
Quick list 1. 4-5 pair of fight shorts (cuts down on washing) 2. Compression shorts in the same amount or tights (I still wear cheap walmart tights) 3. Cup and mouthguard (again, if the money ain't there go cheap. You can always get better equipped a piece at a time) 4. Sweat towel 5. Athletic tape 6. Water bottle and plenty of water!
If the gym offers gi, consider cross training. It never hurts to open your eyes to the entire realm of jitz. Above all brah, have fun! Don't be afraid to ask questiones. A good instructor will always take time to answer them. Coach Herzog, Helton, and a ton of others always answer mine. They are a shining example of what Mr Bravo has created...a true jiu jitsu family. Welcome and enjoy.

Hey, thanks for replying, yea I have 4 pairs of shorts and 4 rash guards, about the compression shorts, will the ones that I use for hockey be fine? same with the mouth guard? Can you post a link to the walmart tights, I wanna see them, but I don't know if tights are really my thing haha (no offense) (I can link a site if you want me to if u don't know what I am talking aboot)

About the gi, I do eventually want to train or cross train with one, but money wise its going to be way to close, I mean I still need to buy all my stuff for Muay Thai. But ahh man, Im itching so much to start. Thanks for the help!!

so this lady here i just met wants to be butt naked in a shower full of hair gel.....i told her maybe if the tea is sweet. i mean if i had a breakfust full of people i love wouldn't that be nice. what if i said i didn't love people. well then you'd have to except the fact that a saturday night isn't drunk in a club with a random ho. no offense to people who tie their shoes backwards. we have this under control. look im not here to do what people think im here to. im just here to enjoy the system and just to help others through life. im getting old and soon eternity will be nothingness unless i can be born again as a slave to donkey meat. lets be good tho. people need this good. amen .

Lmao, I wore pantyhose in Ranger school bro. Trust me tights are ok. They are worn under your fight shorts or gi pants anyway. Sorry no link, but they're just average running tights. I've even worn womens yoga shit in a pinch to get to class lmfao. You can try the hockey ones but you may find em a bit bulky if they're anything like my old hockey ones with pads. The mouthguard will more than likely be the same way. I'd try a low cost shock dr. or boil n bite if you have to for now. You'll find a ton of people willing to help in this family bro. As for Don, he's always spreadin love lol.
