Its true man, and this also applies to the military law enforcement.

When I used to skateboard I thought all cops were jerks. Now I own a store, and freaking love cops. Getting to laugh with them when I bust a shoplifter is the best.

Well said, the problem isn't the trigger finger of the police officer, it's the absurdity of our laws that put him in that position in the first place. We don't use robocops, the human factor is always going to be there. But wouldn't you rather the cop have been serving a high risk warrant on a high level crack dealer and accidentally pop that bitch rather than a recreational pot smoker? Bottom line, tragedies like this are going to happen, it's just the nature of law enforcement, but leave the stoners alone god damnit!

Wow. If the guy didn't draw a weapon on the cop, I don't think you can justify it. Your welcome to talk yourselves in circles trying. Dude was probably a fat ass couch potato. Flushing drugs down a toilet only to get executed? Heard of a taser? This kind of stuff disgusts me and is becoming far too socially acceptable. That city should have to take care of his gf and kid indefinitely and that is not even enough. We need harsher punishment for 'accidential' shootings and trigger happy cop fuckers.

By the flawed logic of some of the posters before me, in stating that the police officer was right in his actions or that he was probably right...I offer this:

LVPD Monday identified the police shooter as narcotics detective Bryan Yant, a 10-year veteran of the force. This is the third time Yant has controversially used his police firearm.
I think it's MORE obvious that the POLICE OFFICER is the one who we should be looking at here. He has a HISTORY of this kind of thing. Too often deadly force is used. The police officer could have just as well used a taser in this situation to disarm any violent action. And if the perpetrator was in the bathroom dumping his weed in the toilet, it's highly improbable that he had a gun near him (notice there wasn't any talk of a gun). The police officer probably SCARED the guy and he jumped. Personally, when someone comes around a corner at me I punch first. I would say the dead guy was justified in jumping and that the police officer needs to turn in his badge, stand trial, and go to prison at a minimum for manslaughter if not 2nd degree murder.

People need to stop standing up for the police so much because they "are the police". As some folks say "Don't put the pussy on a pedestal", the same thing applies here: "Don't put the badge on a pedestal".

Cops are just poorly trained dudes with guns and a vague anecdotal knowledge of the law. You guys see this power hungry douche bag with a mustache but when I read that, all I can think is that this is one skittish dude that shouldn't be behind the trigger side of a gun.

I would never put a cop on a pedestal, but conversely it's just as bad to blanketly demonize a person because they are a cop. I sincerely doubt that this cop went in with the intention of murdering somebody in cold blood in front of his peers. Conversely, I think it was silly that he was that freaked out over a weed bust. Just another insecure dude with poor training and a gun.

cops that break down doors of drug dealers homes are more likely to use their firearm than a meter reader... this shooting was found justified by jury in our current legal system...

best thing to do is change the laws...

i train with a few of the cops here and i dont think any of the ones i train with would purposely shoot someone for the fun of it, just because he had a bag of weed...

He has been put on the spot for TWO other gun related shootings on his watch. Which I might add, were both also under questionable circumstances.

AJ, I really can't say I agree with your argument that the police officers are possibly just
poorly trained dudes with guns and a vague anecdotal knowledge of the law
. Since when is not knowing your job an excuse for keeping it? Since when is being poorly trained an excuse for murder? Since when is poor anecdotal knowledge of the law a justification for breaking the law?

With that said, don't think I'm some cop basher. I've known my fair share of good guys who uphold and enforce the law, but then I've known far more who are just complete cock holsters who need just need to end up on point in a patrol in Fallujah.

I dunno man. Maybe it was justified, maybe it wasn't. All I know is my best friend also died from getting shot 6 times through his front door from the cops as he was going to answer it. Then they killed his dog. Cops shooting dogs during drug raids are extremely common incidents. Like 70% of the time if you have a dog in the house it's going to catch a bullet. In the case of my friend, they were actually looking for someone else.

They're fucking killing us out here man. Literally. I'm scared to death of the cops, and I quit all drug use, aside from the occasional joint. I never keep weed in my house or car though. Fuck that. I'm not getting shot over that shit.

I understand cops have a hard job, but no where else in modern society besides the U.S. are so many people getting fucked up, beaten, and killed by police. Innocent or guilty. Doesn't matter. Cops will fucking kill you So fast these days.
