    The Cut Vs. No Cut

As i've got my second competition coming up this weekend I was just wondering who cuts to the weight class below them for competitions and who doesn't?

I did for my first comp but didn't bother for this one. I instead worked more on my strength and conditioning.
But this is cause I cant necessarily figure out the advantages of cutting. Because in BJJ comps weigh in is on the day right, so you don't have a chance to get weighed in and stack weight back on? So your all basically the same weight.

So just wondering what the majority do and why? Figured with the infinite mass of competition experience on here i'd get a pretty strong leaning one way or the other?

Cutting weight is for cowards. I compete whatever my weight is. I don't give a shit. I've fought much larger opponents on the street and never had much of a problem.

ive always fought >100kgs-with my bodyweight up to 145kgs(in judo days...) im now weighing 107kgs,and can give away a lot of bodyweight to competitors-although Ive prevailed!
Im considering going <100kgs for comps,as an experiment, but to drop the weight id give myself plenty of time,5months to shed it.Its the maintenance of keeping it off that I think Ill find hard.
Give it a go at current weight, theres usually enough notice of the comps to decide rather than crap preparation and skipping in a bin bag the morning of the fight!! Every success to you.

I haven't tried cutting yet, personally it's so hard for me to go an hr or so without drinking a liquid let alone a whole day without fluid to go weigh, and then try to guzzle 3 galloons before my match. But hey ya never know, it really depends on ur body and if u think u can lose enough weight to make the weight class below.

I also hate weight cutting and the principle behind it. But I also like winning, and you know that there is a huge difference between beating up big dudes in the street and competing against people who train there asses off. Ten pounds of muscle can be a huge difference if it knows when and where to go.

For grappling comps I dont really worry much anymore and will only cut under five pounds. Mma I have to take it more seriously, unfortunately.

How much over are you and are weigh ins day-of or before?

IMO, As you said, if the weighins are on the day or a couple of hours before your fights it makes no sense to do big cuts and most of the time will make you perform worse.

Only time it makes sense is if your normal weight is like 1-5lbs over the limit, then drop that tiny bit in the 3 days leading up to it so you can end up at the high end of the division instead of the low end.

Dropping 10-15lbs etc for a same day weighin is totally counterproductive IMO
