Rickson Gracie '50/50' Footlock

The sequence starts at 5:30 in the video. Rickson turns into the guys guard, then passes by going over the dudes head, lands in the 50/50 and finishes with an Achilles Lock. The camera work sucks during the pass and finish so I almost didn't see it. This video was back in the early 90's. Rolls studied Sambo as well as Wrestling, Judo... and passed what he knew down to Rickson. I'm sure they got the position from Sambo which has a more sophisticated leglock game.

I've yet to see a video of Rickson that doesn't have horrible video quality like this. Meanwhile, there's crystal clear video of Helio from 30 years earlier...

Speaking of Rickson, did you guys know Marcelo can do that Rickson thing where you suck in your stomach? I have to get him doing it on video. He told me he learned it from watching video of Rickson doing it.

I hear ya. All of the videos of Rickson that I have were filmed on crappy VHS recorders at seminars or in the gym. Helio's fights that were recorded were done on actual film, black and white film, but actual film instead of some cheap tape. These videos are still cool to watch even though the quality is low and I guess Marcelo agrees if he taught himself the stomach thing from watching tapes of Rickson.

In elementary school I had a sketchy El Salvadorian friend, named Efrin, that could do that. He could also do that weird rolling tongue trick... so he would weird people out by pulling up his shirt and rolling his tongue and stomach at the same time, chasing kids around the playground.

Fun times.

I can do that thing with my stomach, I can't roll it like a belly dancer though but I can make it look real creepy thing if I want to. It's not that hard.

I guess Rickson technically is not in the '50/50' because he does the Achilles lock Outside/High instead of bumping the leg across his body to the inside but still... pretty cool to see this from him way back in the day.
