drop in fees/visiting other gyms

what have you experienced is the average drop in fee. Any time I travel with the family I try to find some "me" time at the closest bjj/mma gym. I've experienced everything from $4 to $30 and more times than any they are just welcoming and say try us for nothing and wish me a good vacation. Do you think this open arms attitude really comes through with our sport or that i've just been lucky.

For non member Alliance is 40 dollars for a class....which is a little silly to me. Most gyms I've been to are happy to have me but I'm pretty Alliance sees all non member as spies.

Most of the time its free from my experience. People are more likely to try a class or two if its free and you get to enjoy a class in a new environment and a coach who specializes in something specific and the gym owner/coaches get positive word of mouth advertising which is by far the #1 most effective form of advertising, especially in the martial arts community. Win/Win situation.

Free to $10 per class seems fair.

I've always had fond things to say about schools who offer a class or two free. It shows that they are in it for the love of the sport and to not make a dollar every corner they turn. It's true, word of mouth goes a long ways especially in today's age of forums, blogs, Yelp, etc.

School owners, keep in mind the traveling student that comes through your area could be an influential member of their particular online community. A few positive words said online will go a long way when someone from your market does a Google search for schools to train at and finds the glowing review about you.
