    The Marcelo Guillotine

Marcelo's style of the guillotine has gotten very popular recently and a lot of guys are killing with it at comps.

I've never been that good at guillotines, but for the last couple of months, I've been trying to add them to my game. I can do it while drilling, but I can't seem to manipulate my opponent's head properly to allow me to set it up in a roll.

Do any of you guys specialize in guillotines? How do you like to control the head before setting it up from, say, butterfly guard or closed guard? When I try to "snap the head down", as Marcelo says, my opponent either postures out of it or I can't get my wrist properly under his chin.

    All advice welsome

Dude get some friends to go in together on an mginaction account it's really worth it. If you already have one check guillotine from front head lock and guillotine from side control I really like both of them and they work well for
    Me.

Thanks, man. I've got an account on it, and I really like a lot of the guillotine setups. But what I suck at is controlling the head and catching the neck at the right time.

Yeah I don't get many guillotines from guard or anything probably due to the same problem haha but I think the guillotine from side control and front headlock help with that alot.

i like to put one leg across the belly and the other over the back, this is better than full guard in sum cases as it stops them from achieving a good posture to possibly pull their head out of the guillotine, with this position it is very hard tp posture ur head out of the guillotine

for me, it all begins with controlling his posture with your non-choking hand. from there, you replace your hand with your chest on top of his head. if you can set this up, the end is near.

also, keep your elbows pinched together as much as possible so he doesn't have room to navigate and escape to either side.

pick up a copy of Marcelo's New Game Jiu Jitsu DVD. there's an entire disc covering his guillotine and it's worth its weight in gold.

I think snapping the head down takes alooot of practice to really put it into your game, but the choke from side control is really all about your setup, that's where i get the majority of mine

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll try what you've suggested. And I'll start drilling the hell out of the setup and hopefully catching it in rolls.
