    Failed arm to the mat

So i'm new to the 10th planet system and a big problem I have with getting New York on people is that they don't put their hands on the mat and they keep their elbows on my lower ribs and just pry away until they break my grip on my legs and they end up back in my full guard. So my question is how do I counter this? Other then the MTS videos I have had no other exposure to Eddie's Jiu Jitsu style, I really like it though, the few times i have gotten a proper New York I have meat hooked to a triangle and wrecked shop on the more traditional BJJ practitioners. So any hints? How do I bait their hand to the mat or what position counters a failed hand to the mat?

check out youtube and watch, getting the hand to the mat with the Zombie, this may be what your looking for if you can squeeze you hand under there arm and create a little space you generally can hop up down to pry your hand between there arm and quickly transition to new york from there

screw getting the hand to the mat. just get to crackhead control and go for the armbar, if you keep it tight, they'll never see it coming

Zombie, Duda, Crackhead to pump, the options go on and on... I would suggest getting the dvds and books if you truly like our style! Using those plus MTS will help get you up to speed Then try to get to a Moon/HotBox and learn from some of the players first hand. Good luck on your journey!

Lots of options from mission and crackhead, but make no doubt. You want that hand on the mat.

for me, getting the overhook on his tricep is HUGE. i am looking for that at all times. if you can get his hand to the mat/overhook preemptively, you basically have him trapped in a strong rubber guard position before he even realizes he is caught there. and if you can overhook and then throw straight to chill dog, you jump to instant offense.

First make sure you are not holding your leg with your hand, you should be making a fist and holding your ankle with your wrist, while wrist curling. This will help you from eventually losing your grip. Second, I consider myself one of those guys that is good at defending the Zombie from New York. You must use "The Force". Crunch up your chest towrds your leg, and push up on the elbow. Cunching hard will keep them from moving their elbow back down. After a few pushes there will be enough room to sneek your hand up for the Zombie. Good luck and keep practicing.

It took me lots of slow and tight arm bar/spider web reps before I could actually control their inside arm with my deep hook. A lot of guys would actually feed me the free inside arm hoping that I would get greedy and try to hit the flash arm bar. Then they would posture or pass faster than I could hit the flash arm bar. It really took the drilling (Crack Head control, to deep hook, to spider web or swim move) to reprogram myself to not get over excited in committing to the free arm bar.

So to answer your question, they were technically creating an error when moving their arm down there, and I just had to practice exploiting it.

I suggest submissions101.com. Ari has become a controversial figure in BJJ/MMA, but he usually knows what he is talking about, admits when he does not, and is great about putting together technical, specific videos. THere are vids on there of him, as well as Eddie, showing in detail the most basic elements of rubber guard. By the time you have watched Eddie's vids on the carni, basic RG, and a few others on there, you will get it. Keep an eye out for crackhead control, the zombie, the pump(s), the croc(s), and the duda for starters
