I think the instructors that have taken there ego's out of the game seem to roll with there students. The Jiu Jitsu game is so huge that you have to work all aspects to become better and different weight classes help that. When i'm rolling with guys that I can over power my focus is on transitions without force. If i'm rolling with larger guys my focus is on constant movement so they can't set up there weight. I love Jiu Jitsu for the chess match and the flow... tap and no tap I love the game either way :-)

I am one of the larger guys (250 lbs) but I have gone against larger. Also I go against regulary a guy with a lame arm and hand. Have to admit it was hard to get over first but the only thing I could think of was Jean Jaque Machado. It just sucks because I am limited to only working one side.

I love to roll with anyone, regardless of size. Although i must admit that when the get over 230 or so, its gets pretty tough to breath when they are on top of you. Other than that, i like the fact that they are heavier and stronger, i think its good for my training overall to mix things up.

im 210lbs and i fight at 185-170lbs when im getting down in weight for fights i keep rolling with all the purples and browns that are 200-250+ at marcelos and its tough but it helps me in the long run cause if i can sweep them when im drained and out weighed by alot i can run through guys at 185-170lbs when the time comes....

I hate it in the moment but man does it feel good when im doing the same moves to guys alot smaller

I am a big dude!...AND I WILL SMASH YOU!!......just kidding. I'm 205 and I like to roll with everyone. I try to work on my technique with the little guys, but once I'm in side control or mount or half mount, I use my weight...otherwise they'll try to invert on me and then I have to pass they're guard all over again.

Some of my bigger students do the same thing. They cant help themselves - if they have it, why not use it right? (the weight I mean)...the only problem with that is, when they use it on smaller weaker students and it works, they get used to it and that becomes part of their "game" which isn't as effective on someone at their same weight and strength. Id say screw it, if they invert, then try to beat it with technique, if you cant, you just get to practice another guard pass

The best is when a big dude goes for a sub out of position and just goes hyper mongoloid on you for the kill. It still hurts but you're fine and you just sit and relax while they sound like a gay porno movie trying to finish. That's probably the worst part about rolling with a huge dude is just the required patience to let them grind their own cardio down before you can really begin to work... and just when you are about to attack they sit up, look you in the face, "Dude I'm gassed. Thanks for the roll but I got to get going."

Funny thing is that I'm stuck in a weird spot when it comes to big guys. I'm 5'6" but 205lbs., so I end up being a short, almost heavy guy. I spent most of the weekend rolling with guys 250lbs.+ and I'm pretty banged up after the fact. I find that I tend to just do my best to survive, grind down their cardio, and try to lock in some sort of choke. After 15mo., I'm still not having huge success against bigger guys with a similar skill level. At my height, it kind of reminds me of when I was a kid wrestling around with my father! What tends to happen is that: a. they eventually catch me in something b. they get frustrated with my defense, gas, then quit before we finish c. I occasionally manage to get in a choke. This is much easier with a gi, although I sometimes get them in NoGi as well. It's not what I'd call fun, but it's a great way to get cardio/strength training in all at once!
