Don't want to come across as spamming the forum, but I do want to share the most recent video I shot at the Marcelo Garcia Academy. It's a profile of one of the instructors but there's a pretty cool clip of Marcelo at around 1:50 where you see how Marcelo defends the butterfly sweep.

Yeah, all you have to do is have perfect balance and timing, and just not go over! It's easy - just be Marcelo Garcia and butterfly sweeps don't work. In all seriousness, though, I have met and trained with Henrique at Marcelo's, and he both a really nice, down to earth guy as well as a great teacher.

Henrique is awesome and a super nice guy.
I rolled with him for the first time three years ago in Miami and I thought he was really good back then. He was a lot smaller than me, but very technical. After that, he got his black belt from Fabio (and unofficially from Marcelo), and eventually moved to NY to follow Marcelo.....
When I rolled with him two months ago, I was amazed to see how much better he was....super dangerous and still technical as hell. It is a big inspiration to see someone get their black belt, but then continue to get even better and better as a black belt rather than peak and plateau....Look for big things from Henrique in the future.

Marcelo sure loves that inverted arm attack off a failed DU butterfly sweep, that will eventually get officially integrated into the tpjj system. Super pro shoot Ric, top notch as always

Great post! I have had the opportunity to train with Henrique a few times in NYC, he's a wonderful instructor and a pleasure to learn from. Looking forward to getting back to the east coast soon
