2nd and 3rd place at Lutador Challenge in Atlanta Ga this weekend

I competed in the Lutador Challenge in Atlanta Ga this weekend. This was my first grappling tournament. ( I had only competed in mma fight prior to this) I placed 2nd in the gi and 3rd in the no gi in the masters light weight divisions. In my gi quarter final match I was able to utilize the lockdown whip up and a half assed electric chair sweep to get the initial points. In the gi final I tried to do the same but the guy was a highschool wrestling coach who trains with Roberto Traven and he just kept me pinned down most of the match and I wasnt able to do anything with him. In the nogi quarter final I faced the same wrestler that I lost to in the gi finals. I was able to attempt several armbars and a triangel that he defended. I lost to submission but I feel the reason I lost was because the ref told us to stop and I let my opponent out of my guard and didnt hear when he told us to fight again I figured he was going to reposition him back in my guard but he didnt and my opponent ran over got side control then mounted and sub me with a forearm choke. In the nogi match for third I was exhausted it was my ninth match of the day and I had just finshed my quarter final match less than a minute before they called us to compete. i was gassed and I was really sloppy and wasnt able to defend or create any offense because I was so tired somehow I caught him with a triangle that I wasnt able to close so I squeezed with my forearm on the opposite side to get the tap with less than 30 seconds on a match that I was losing 7 to 5. I was told after the fight I could have asked for five minutes which i wish I would have know because after the tournament I rolled with the guy I utterly demolished him. oh well I'll do better next !!!

next time you find yourself in the position of not being able to hit the electric chair, try the electric chair pendulum, working back and forth controlling your opponent with the lockdown will confuse and frustrate him where he may try to escape by hand walking out and possible give you the electric chair sweep. I had one of my beginners do this to one of my trained fighters and was able to pull it off. good job on your medals, that was awesome. In valdosta, You might want to shoot up to charlotte and train with john helton who may be able to help you with your technique also.

frank, I tried going out to the dog fight and rocking to get there I just wasnt able to move to that side because he was putting so much pressure on my upper body and was holding me down by my lapels.

Yeah I plan on going up to Charolette some time next year to train with John and to HQ to train there as well and definitely back to Decatur AL or Mobile AL to train with Brandon again.
