gi vs no-gi - Braulio Estima

Watch @ 41:50. Braulio has some interesting thoughts on gi vs no-gi training, & the benefits that both styles have on each other.
    Thoughts?

Great episode Jake. I look forward to every one. This one is my top 3. The other two were Nino Schembri (his side mount bottom attacks were awesome) and Jeff Glover (the roll was fun to watch).

Braulio is one of my heroes.

I think he has a well informed opinion. I'd say that working the gi in the traditional way helps guys develop strong foundations that will translate well into no gi. But I don't believe that gi will help your MMA game. There's a reason the Nogueira bro's don't train gi anymore. In my eyes, each one is starting to become their own sport in their own respect. It's like, greco and judo (pardon the rough analogy). You can do a lot of judo stuff in greco. You can do a lot of greco stuff in judo. But you can't play each one identically. Same with bjj and no gi. The moves translate one to the other, but it's starting to evolve into someone different sports. Again, this is just my opinion. So what I'm saying is, saying which is better is comparing apples to oranges. They're both beautiful in their own right and they can both be helpful to one another.

But No gi is still the smarter one to train for the sport of MMA.

They probably call him Roger with the "R" in the UK. I can hear traces of UK rubbing off on Braulio's accent. This could be one case.
