Yeah, why can't people give him correct technique instead of laughing? At least he's actually made the effort to start training and lost a lot of weight. It's only a Blue Belt, let him get on with it.

If he had a Black Belt (or even a purple belt) on, it'd be another thing, but cut the guy some slack. Maybe he posted this before a tournament to give people the wrong idea and he actually smashes fools.

I guess it depends who you get your blue from. I know where I'm at, blues don't come easy.

I thought it was developed as a martial art. Either way, I agree, BJJ is a great lifestyle change. I've never been this consistent with any sport/exercise regiment. I really feel like my quality of life has improved. Not to tout this like religion, but it's made me a better guy overall. So, yeah his belt would be dubious in certain gyms, but if that's how Rener ranks, that's how Rener ranks. I doubt he's trying to win the mundials. Not every guy who plays basketball is trying to reach the NBA. Some people just play because they love it. It's the same with BJJ.

And regardless, the truth is 7/10 times, a trained guy will beat an untrained guy. I've seen it so many times. I remember a hood dude in my school got torn up (broken arm included) by some nice kid from the wrestling team who got tired of being bullied. In the end, this benefits him for his health and he's learning basic self defense. More power to him.

That being said, that video is pretty damn bad. LOL.

Funny videos. I actually started to relate with the dude. He has that same passion that we have. Awesome!! I'm actually gonna give him real critique on youtube because there were some major holes in his game.
Rick, you have a black belt in positivity my friend. I love your attitude.

I can't watch the whole video but from what I did watch it looks like they are trying to "slow roll". Good for them. I can't laugh at a person for trying to better themselves. I love jiu jitsu for many reasons. But one of the main reasons is it gives me a reason to give a shit about me. As a father and husband I get so lost sometimes in my roles and duties to my family that I forget that I need to care about me also. Jiu jitsu provides that for me. I'll never be a bjj champion, I'll probably never have a black belt in bjj. Those aren't my goals. I train because I love the game. I love to learn, and I love what little bit of competition it gives me. So I won't laugh at this guy, because he's doing SOMETHING. Whether or not his blue is warranted is not for me to judge. If he heads to a gym where the blues smash him maybe it will matter to him, maybe it won't. But kudos to him for starting something and sticking with it and being proud enough about himself to share it with the world.

I see it for what it is today. Give me some martial arts that don't recognize advancement? Your peers are worldwide so I guess that's okay with me.

????? Stronger? This isn't a weightlifting sport. It's a recognition that one's skill has advanced. So it's symbolic to that advancement. It is what it is. A symbol of accomplishment. If you do your history on belts, you'd realize that it wasn't a group decision. It was one master who used it as a means to motivate his students by providing them a visual representation of their progress.

    Or a symbol of subordination.

Belts mean nothing. In Western Boxing there are no belt for ranking. Championship belts are won, not given.
I like a ranking system. Even our U.S. military has rankings. It kinda makes sense to me and this coming from a senseless person. Hahaha
