I started using shorts. So learning lockdown i had to grip Hard to hold a sweaty leg in position. Now a month later my lock down Crushes. Guys will give up position to get out of it and relieve the pain. So being forced to use muscle made a better grip.
Today i got my Ankle socks from Meele. Im hoping that will take it to the next level. Sweaty feet slip at Crackhead, but again that forced me to get better at leg curls.
Now im just rambling, i guess my point was unless you are a purist use what improves your game. And if you are a purist, what is the definition of NoGi? Why not call it Shorts Jiu Jitsu? And not be open to any deviation from the shorts uniform, much like our open minded Gi friends.

I like Eddie's view that it helps you rep certain techniques better when you first start using them. Then when you start getting really familiar with the correct movement and technique, roll without the gi pants and work on your squeeze. If you rely too much on the friction of the pants, our squeeze will loosen; unless you constantly do squeezing exercises so you don't lose it.

Jiu jitsu does not relay on any specific clothing. It's a martial art. The more clothing you add the further you get from pure jiu jitsu.
Then why does traditional BJJ have like a billion variations of collar chokes?

if you live in Canada you would be a fan of gi training because in the winter people wear big coats an you never know when a good collar choke would come in handy.

First I was against it because of Eddie's talk about if you don't wear it in the cage, then don't train with it. Then I didn't like reading how he was kind of picking and choosing about bjj. Saying it's really the top not the pants that's the problem. But now hearing how more reps will help the lockdown and various sweeps...now I don't like it because i've already bought tap out shorts sprawl shorts, and shin sleeve, along with ankle sleeves. Even though I know I could use the ankle sleeves with gi pants. What if a training day consists of kick boxing or muay thai as well ? Gi pants or shorts ?

To me wearing gi pants as a beginner helps my game a lot, my lockdowns are a lot tighter and being a beginner i usually am playing my half gaurd game, which i like to play, because i feel it to be a very dominate position for me becuase of my flexibility issues. I mean i have my subs, my sweeps, and im a bigget set guy so when i get to mount i can use my weight to muscle the opponet around.

My biggest concern was for comps, I dont want to rep something a bunch in gi pants and get to a comp and not be able to wear them, and possibly lose my grip. I think i will start working with and with out them, and possibly invest in ankle sleeve's, seems like a lot of people like to use them. To me it's all about improving your game, use what you feel works, and use whats allowed to your advatange. To me if you train just MMA shorts are the way to go, if your more of a martial artist and JJ is all you want to learn why not wear a gi or just gi pants? I've never trained in a full out gi, after reading Eddie's books i can see the holes in the gi game and i do feel that the no-gi game is a lot more technical, but i feel wearing gi pants isnt using the gi, im not doing on gi holds, im still using all my hooks, I just can get a lot better grip with my legs now
